Sari & Trainers
DIRECTOR: Sari & Trainers is an East Side Story from Young London: a Bollywood epic in short film form. The film was shot in and around Brick Lane, and reflects the character and changing face of one of London's most historical areas. It is the second in a projected trilogy of London love stories from director Jeremy Wooding, whose debut drama Paris, Brixton on Channel Four had numerous festival screenings worldwide.
"The films are really mini-movies, trying to break out of the confines of the short film genre", says Wooding. "They are snapshots of Nineties London - personal stories which are part of a bigger picture". Sari & Trainers tells the story of Jason and Geena, 17 year olds from two sides of the East End experience; he is from a white workng class background, she is second generation British Asian. It's their first date, arranged through a schoolfriend. Will their Saturday afternoon liason go to plan? Or will their respective families thwart their budding romance? Young, hip and multi-cultural, Sari & Trainers is a perennial story of young romance, told with wit, warmth and visual flair. Drawing on the musical traditions of Indian cinema, the film has an original soundtrack composed by Steve Beresford, featuring three songs sung in Hindi (with English subtitles) and a Bollywood-style dance sequence shot in Fashion Street, London E1! Sari & Trainers was shot in colour on Super 35mm widescreen format. Sari & Trainers has supported various headline Bollywood movies and Michael Winterbottom's Wonderland. Duration: 15 minutes. 35mm Colour, Scope.(1, 2:35 ratio, comopt) Representation:
